The government is committed to decarbonising the UK electricity supply by 2035. A technical consultation on changes to national planning policy has been announced which may pave the way to reducing restrictions on onshore wind farms

It should be stressed that we are not aware of any such proposals locally at present and that the purpose of this exercise is simply to better understand people's views.

Whilst renewable energy may be generated from many sources, Middleton has no fast-flowing water sources for hydro-power, and large-scale solar panels may well prove impractical. The production of electricity from wind turbines appears to be a potentially viable option, particularly given Middleton's elevation. It's suggested that a site on Middleton Moor might be suitable, facing towards those at Longcliffe and Carsington, and out of the way of the Middleton Mine works.

The survey is being conducted by our two local Ward members, in conjunction with the Parish Council, and thanks are also due to the Village Pump who have a printed copy in the March 2023 edition.
