County Councillor's Report

We have received the following from CCllr Irene Ratcliffe

"Dear Residents

It has been an eventful summer in the village with many being able to participate and enjoy a variety of activities in the community.

I am also pleased to hear of the intention to set up a village film club and to be able help fund this along with my fellow district councilors.

Following concerns over parking and speeding, reported to the Parish Council, I arranged a site visit at the end of July, with DCC Highways, the PC representative and concerned residents. Inconsiderate parking has created difficulties for both residents and bus drivers on Main Street. In particular parking at bus stops, junctions and residential access is causing visibility constraints and obstruction on what is often a "single lane" because of parked cars. It hoped to be able to highlight these areas by white lining the road. However consideration for other road users would help significantly. There are concerns that the difficulties could result in the loss of the bus service for the top of the village with all its attendant problems for residents there. The creation of long term parking spaces also needs to be looked at.

The speeding issues across the whole village have been discussed and I have spoken with the police. A few residents have already agreed to take part in a "speed watch" exercise. They will be supported and trained by the police. If you wish to take part, please ring me on 01629 823023."
